Gangsters Thwart Fire, 2-1
|
The Chicago Gangsters downed the San Francisco Fire, 2-1, at San Francisco Grounds. Stellar pitching by Bobby Nowlin had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who is tied for 7th in the AC in innings pitched with 96.0, handcuffed his opponent all game. Nick Slover, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 1st save. San Francisco's current losing streak has reached 4 games.
Chicago used the timely hitting of Ryan Atkins to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Gangsters on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Atkins attributed the win to his team's "focus and intensity."
