Brewer Swats 2 Homers, Royals Top Whistlers, 5-1
|
The Cincinnati Royals beat the Boston Whistlers, 5-1, at Whislters Park. Cincinnati designated hitter Brian Brewer had an outstanding performance. He hit 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Picking up the win was Juan Fernandez. He went 5 innings, allowing 1 run on 3 hits. The right--hander struck out 5 and walked 1. Miguel Leon got credit for the save for Cincinnati. It was his 2nd of the year.
Cincinnati relied on the bat of Jaden York to get the win. The second baseman produced a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Royals ahead, 2-0. For the game, York had 1 double and 1 home run in 5 at-bats.
In postgame comments to the Cincinnati Citizen, Brewer said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
Cincinnati is now 37-34, while Boston is 36-35.
