New York Loses, 13-12, Despite Geeslin Exploits
|
Both teams had their chances, but the Austin Desperados eventually prevailed.
The Austin Desperados had to overcome a big game from New York second baseman Bill Geeslin to leave Dell Diamond with a victory. And they did, winning, 13-12. Geeslin was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 7. Steve McClung, now 3-3, was credited with the win in 1.1 innings of relief. He allowed 1 run on 1 hit, while striking out 1 and walking 0.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the seventh, with the game tied, Drew Riggi was at the plate when Austin scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Desperados to go in front, 12-11.
"From the last whatever, five, six, seven games, there's really only one way to go and that's up," said losing manager .
Austin is 30-40 and New York, with the loss, 27-43.
