San Francisco Beats Vancouver, 5-2
|
San Francisco and Vancouver duked it out and the Fire came out victorious.
The San Francisco Fire beat the Vancouver Mounties, 5-2, at San Francisco Grounds. The win was due in part to first baseman Eric Blanset, who went 2-4 with a home run, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. James Dobyns was the winning pitcher. Over 6.2 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 7 hits, with 2 walks and 8 strikeouts. Keith Hawes earned the save, his 11th, for the Fire.
The Fire got a big at-bat from third baseman Matthew Little. For the game, Little went 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fourth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 20th home run of the season gave San Francisco a 3-2 lead.
"I thought we played a nice game," Blanset told the San Francisco Bulletin. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
The last-place Fire have a record of 75-87.
