The Syracuse Scorpions topped the Tampa Bay Captains, 8-6, in American Conference action at Scorpion Stadium. The standout performance belonged to Syracuse pitcher and Bensalem Township, Pennsylvania, native John Froerer. The winner was Froerer. He threw 5.0 innings of shutout ball. The loser was Tyler Hildebrand. Syracuse is now 71-91, while Tampa Bay is 73-89.

Rich Johnson had a big bases-clearing double for the Scorpions in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Syracuse leading 2-0 and the bases loaded, he got a sinker from 31-year old left-handed pitcher Tyler Hildebrand and swatted a double to center. It was his 15th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Scorpions ahead, 5-0.

"Feels good to get the job done," Johnson said after the game.
