The Miami Boll Weevils did just enough to sneak past the Sonoma Scorpions, 6-5, at Ballpark of North Richland Hills. Miami pitcher Mike Hammond, in particular, had a standout performance. Hammond, the winner, moves to 4-0. He threw 5 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 6 walks. Dave Vondrasek notched his 12th save in 16 chances.
It could have been a different outcome for Miami, had it not been for Ted Hiner, the 22-year old third baseman . Hiner contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the first inning to put Miami up, 1-0.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Hiner.
Miami's record now stands at 46-53, placing them 4th in the Western AA Coastal Division.
