Boll Weevils Snatch Late-Game, 2-1 Win
|
Ballpark of Miami was the site of some high drama.
The Miami Boll Weevils banked on Steve Flynn and he turned in a masterful performance. The left-hander kept the Augusta hitters in check. The final score was 2-1, Boll Weevils, in 10 innings. Miami reliever Brent Kuest picked up the win to move to 7-2. Brian Treadway suffered the loss.
Miami got a game-changing hit from Dave Garcia. The first baseman blasted a solo home run in the bottom of the tenth inning to win the game. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a winner.
During his postgame press conference, Boll Weevils manager Bill Murtha told reporters that he expected a tight game from the get-go. "This had the potential to go down to the wire, and it certainly didn't disappoint," he said, later quipping, "it might've been a little less nerve-racking if I had been watching the game from my couch!"
The Boll Weevils improved their record to 37-64 with the win over Augusta.
