Detroit left fielder Ben Shafer contributed significantly to his team's 6-5 win over the Dallas Dragons. Shafer went 2 for 4 with 1 run scored to lead the offensive attack for the Giants. Heath Maughn, now 3-1, was credited with the win in 3.1 innings of relief. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 1. The setback makes Dallas 33-37.

Detroit got a knockout punch from Ron Cardwell. The pinch hitter hammered a 2-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game. It might've been his only hit, but it decided the outcome.

"It's nice to deliver when your team's counting on you," said Shafer.
