New York Beats Philadelphia, 8-3
|
Getting a good performance from center fielder Ryan Stanczak, the New York Nightmare defeated the Philadelphia Marauders, 8-3. Stanczak went 2 for 4 with a home run. He scored 2 times and drove in 4 for the Nightmare. Sergio Vera, credited with the save, is now 1 for 3 in save opportunities. New York goes to 58-103, Philadelphia to 87-74.
Jim Wilkes had a big 2-run double for the Nightmare in the bottom of the third inning. With New York leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a splitter from Corey Gruver, who finished 5th in the NC in innings pitched with 218.1 in 2008, and swatted a double to left. It was his 19th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Nightmare ahead, 3-0.
"I like the vibe in the clubhouse after a win," said Stanczak. "It sure beats the alternative."
