Thanks in large part to first baseman Keith DiPiazza, the Sonoma Scorpions beat the Stockton Ragin Cajuns, 9-8. DiPiazza was 2 for 4 with a home run and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2. Tatsuya Oshima earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. His record is now 1-0. Picking up the save was fireballing right-hander Cory Newton.
Sam Foster, the Sonoma catcher, contributed a 2-run single in the top of the fourth inning to make the score 8-5, Scorpions. For the game, Foster was 2-5 with 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI.
"It was a nice win for our side today," said Scorpions manager Keith Young. "Not perfect, but we'll take it."
The Scorpions raised their record to 53-48.
