The Miami Boll Weevils tallied a win at Ballpark of Miami, throttling the Sonoma Scorpions, 3-2. Starting pitcher Gerardo Matute was a big reason for his team's success. The Boll Weevils bumped their record to 54-44 with this latest triumph.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Boll Weevils had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the third, when second baseman Matthew Hodges hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Rob Stech and made the score 3-1, Boll Weevils. Hodges went 1 for 4.
"We have a lot of confidence in Gerardo," said Miami manager Bill Murtha.
