Bombardiers Turn Back Cavalry, 2-1
|
Cincinnati turned a good effort from starter Jose Perez into a win over the St. Louis Cavalry at Ballpark of Cincinnati. The final score was 2-1. Perez, now 13-2, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 3, walking 3, and allowing no runs. Nate Ray notched his 10th save in 11 chances.
The Bombardiers got a big at-bat from designated hitter Phil Williams. For the game, Williams went 1 for 4 with a double. In the bottom of the sixth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 15th double of the season gave Cincinnati a 1-0 lead.
"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Perez said after the game.
With the win, Cincinnati upped its record to 55-42.
