Firecats Thwart Royals, 4-2
|
Behind a solid performance from left fielder Steve Veith, the Hialeah Firecats defeated the Cornwall Royals, 4-2. Veith was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Firecats. Joel Edmondson, the winner, improved to 7-7. He held the Royals to 2 runs on 2 hits over 5 innings, while striking out 3 and walking 2. Earning his 9th save for Hialeah was Jesse Tuuri.
Trey Maughan, who is tied for 7th in the W-AA in triples with 3, had a direct impact on the outcome. Maughan contributed a run-scoring ground out in the top of the third inning to put Hialeah up, 2-0.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Maughan. "And not try to do too much."
The Firecats sport a record of 32-61.
