The Detroit Giants went home winners at Ballpark of Detroit, thanks in large part to starter Justin Thompson. Thompson stifled the Halifax Heathens, enabling Detroit to grab the 4-1 win. Lee Maher finished to wrap up his 12th save. Detroit is now 34-34.

Steve McLaughlin was 1-2 with 2 walks for Detroit. With one out and the game tied in the bottom of the seventh inning, McLaughlin, who finished 5th in the AC in triples with 7 last year, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Halifax hurler Billy Shields, he drew a walk, driving in 1 run to give the Giants a 2-1 lead.

"What's not to like about a win?" said McLaughlin.
