Calkins Powers Shiners Offense
No one was more impactful than Cole Calkins in the 10-4 Charleston win over Vancouver. Calkins, who finished 2nd in the NC in batting average with .298 in 2017, went 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3. The win belonged to Jon Reynolds in relief. His record improves to 3-1. Nate Miller took the loss for Vancouver. Charleston sits in second place in the National Conference South Division at 39-29.

Charleston used the clutch hitting of Nick Wisniewski to snag the win. The center fielder drilled a grand slam home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Shiners ahead, 8-3. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.

Calkins told the Charleston News: "Win or lose, I don't want to see our team outhustled."
