Oakland got a big-time effort from pitcher Miguel Leon, but it wasn't enough to keep the Carolina Crown from winning the game, 3-1. Leon threw 7.0 innings of 2-hit ball for the losing team. Carolina reliever Nate McClaskey picked up the win to move to 3-3. Mike Walker suffered the loss. The Crown now own a record of 26-39.
Carolina used the timely hitting of Jeff Whitis to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Crown on top, 3-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Whitis told a Carolina Herald reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."
