On Road, Giants Top Nightmare, 7-3
|
The New York Nightmare could not turn a fine performance from pitcher John Way into a win. Instead, the Detroit Giants prevailed, 7-3. Way threw 6.1 innings of 4-hit ball. Dave Shevlin, who went 6.1 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 3 runs on 6 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 3. His record now stands at 8-1. At 37-28, the Giants claim second place in the American Conference North East Division.
Detroit used the timely hitting of Brandon Fry to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Giants on top, 4-2. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Fry attributed the win to his team's "focus and intensity."
