The Sonoma Scorpions got a superb performance from pitcher Steve Oswald, but the Vail Tigercats still won the game, 3-2. Oswald threw 6.2 innings of 4-hit ball. The winner in relief was Robert Hendricks. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3 innings. He now owns a record of 3-5. Today's win puts Vail at 46-47, while Sonoma falls to 48-45.

The climactic moment came in the bottom of the 11th for Vail. That's when 26-year old second baseman John Lucia hit a solo home run off Steve Shewmaker to win the game. The home crowd erupted in celebration.

"We made a couple of mistakes," said Sonoma skipper Keith Young, "and it cost us."
