In a tight contest between the Sonoma Scorpions and the Vermont Milkmen, Terence Rodda was the determining factor. The Sonoma right-hander sparkled in his team's 3-1 win. Rodda, now 5-5, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 9, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. Cory Newton earned the save for Sonoma, his 19th of the year.

In the bottom of the 6th, catcher Sam Foster gave Sonoma the lead when he hit a 2-run single. The Scorpions had been trailing 1-0, but the two-out single off Vermont pitcher Mike Hall changed that -- and Sonoma went on to win.

"Bottom line," said Vermont skipper Steve Reid, "we didn't play well enough to win."

The second-place Scorpions go to 48-44.
