Though he had a terrific game, Justin Thurston could not prevent his team, the Miami Boll Weevils, from absorbing a loss. Cornwall won the game, 7-4. Thurston was 3-4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Cornwall reliever Mike Winslow got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Jon Caruso was tagged with the loss. The Royals saw their win-loss record go to 44-41. At the same time, the Boll Weevils fell to 36-49.

Cornwall took a 7-4 lead on Brian Butler's 1st double of the season. The 2-run double, which Butler hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Miami pitcher Nick Chinn visibly frustrated.

"Big team win," Butler said later.
