Sonoma starter Micah Cole kept the Vermont offense from doing much damage. The right-hander leaned on his cutter in leading the Scorpions to a 3-1 win. Sonoma has an impressive 58-26 record.

Sonoma took a 2-1 lead on Jaiden Jones's 10th double of the season. The 2-run double, which Jones hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Vermont pitcher Jimmy Martinez visibly frustrated.

"I tried to establish all my pitches early," said Cole.
