A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the Detroit Giants and New York Nightmare.

The New York Nightmare got a superb performance from pitcher Sergio Vera, but the Detroit Giants still won the game, 7-3. Vera came in in relief and pitched to 18 batters. Julian Bryant, the winner, is now 6-4. He struck out 4 and walked 2 over 6.1 innings, while allowing 2 runs on 6 hits.

Ben Shafer had a big bases-clearing double for the Giants in the bottom of the first inning. With Detroit leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a cutter from 25-year old right-handed pitcher Tarjei Wiese and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 10th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Giants ahead, 4-0.

"Winning never gets dull," said Shafer.

Detroit, at 38-26, is 2½ games up in the American Conference North East Division.
