Cincinnati Loss Tarnishes Fine Game by Williams
|
Despite a great performance by Cincinnati designated hitter Phil Williams, the Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Bombardiers by the score of 9-7 at Ballpark of Cincinnati. Williams was 4-5 with 2 home runs and 2 singles. He scored 3 times and drove in 4. The winner was Hamilton reliever Carlos Tellez, now 1-0. The loser was Jorge Santos. Hamilton is 40-43 and Cincinnati, with the loss, 41-42.
Hamilton used a clutch at-bat from Todd Stevens to capture the win. The right fielder hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Bulldogs ahead, 2-0. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Stevens said.
