Royals Stop Scorpions, 3-0
|
Cornwall used a superb performance from starting pitcher Greg Ricketts to down the Sonoma Scorpions, 3-0. Chris Porter collected his 23rd save. Cornwall is third in the Western AA Coastal Division with a record of 40-41.
The Scorpions had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Royals going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 26-year old left fielder Joe Scharf came to the plate. Scharf hit a 2-run home run on a 1-0 fastball from Sonoma hurler Alex Perez. It was Scharf's 4th home run of the year.
"It's always a heck of a lot easier to get to sleep after a win," Scharf told the Cornwall Chronicle. "I know I'll rest easy tonight."
