Pittsburgh Loses, 6-5, Despite Orozco Performance
|
Fans watched the Boston Whistlers and the Pittsburgh Phantoms fight to the finish.
The Boston Whistlers had to overcome a big game from Pittsburgh shortstop Leo Orozco to leave Phantoms Field with a victory. And they did, winning 6-5. Orozco hit 3 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored three times. Mark Dudley earned the save for Boston, his 18th of the year.
Boston got the win thanks to a clutch hit from Jeff Beeson. The shortstop stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Whistlers ahead, 5-4. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it had a major impact on the outcome.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Beeson told the Boston Chronicle.
The second-place Whistlers sport a record of 33-30.
