Vail left fielder Nate Grooms contributed significantly to his team's 6-4 win over the Sonoma Scorpions. Grooms went 1 for 1 with 1 run scored to lead the offensive attack for the Tigercats. Micah Gibson, now 1-1, was credited with the win in 1.1 innings of relief. He allowed 2 runs on 2 hits, while striking out 1 and walking 2. James Gibson earned save number 1 this season.

Grooms had a game-changing home run in the top of the eighth. On a 0-1 curveball from Shissho Matsuno, he banged a grand slam home run to right, giving the Tigercats a 6-2 lead. It was the 2nd home run of the year for Grooms.

"Our approach was just to try to see something over the plate and be aggressive," Grooms told the Vail Daily.

The win gives Vail a season record of 39-34.
