Stockton 5-1 Losers to Scorpions
The Sonoma Scorpions beat the Stockton Ragin Cajuns, 5-1, at Ballpark of North Richland Hills. Starting pitcher Mike Martinez was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. In 8.2 innings, Martinez surrendered 8 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. Getting the save was Cory Newton, his 13th.

The Ragin Cajuns had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Scorpions going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old left fielder Ryan Willin came to the plate. Willin hit a 2-run home run on a 0-1 fastball from Stockton hurler Freddy Arellanos. It was Willin's 1st home run of the year.

"Mike gets tougher when he has to, makes a big pitch when he has to," said Sonoma skipper Keith Young.

At 34-32, the Scorpions claim second place in the Western AA Coastal Division.
