Firecats Get Clutch Win, 3-2
|
The Firecats grabbed a win, 3-2, at Firecats Ballpark, overcoming a fine effort from Cornwall pitcher Jose Paredes. Paredes went 6.1 innings and allowed no runs. Hialeah reliever Dermot Howe was credited with the win. His record goes to 3-5. John Salgado took the loss for Cornwall. Armando Salas recorded his 11th save for Hialeah.
Miguel Martinez drove in one run for Hialeah. With one out and the game tied in the bottom of the eighth inning, Martinez, who is tied for 6th in the W-AA with a .328 batting average, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Cornwall hurler John Salgado, he hit a sacrifice fly to give the Firecats a 3-2 lead.
"We put some tough at-bats on some tough pitches," said Hialeah manager John Costa.
The last-place Firecats now have a record of 24-42.
