The Cornwall Royals had to overcome a fine effort from St. Louis pitcher Adam Appelbaum to win, 6-5, at King George Park. Appelbaum went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs. Bubba Byrne notched the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. His record now sits at 2-1. The Royals sit in third place in the Western AA Central Division with a record of 40-26.

The game-ending blow was delivered by Leo Cortez in the bottom of the tenth. That's when he hit a run-scoring double off 23-year old right-handed pitcher Zhi-gang Loong to win it for Cornwall and cause the home crowd to erupt in celebration.

"It was terrific getting this win," Cortez said. "We put in a lot of work to do it."
