The Vail Tigercats knocked off the Cornwall Royals, 4-3, in Western AA action at King George Park. Vail pitcher and Alabaster, Alabama, native Mike Brown had an outstanding performance. In 6.1 innings, Brown surrendered 1 hit, while striking out 2 and walking 4. He allowed 2 runs. Vince Rice was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 18 of 19 save opportunities.
Vail used the timely hitting of Paul Dankenbring to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Tigercats on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I'm just trying to make good contact," said Dankenbring, "one at-bat at a time."
With the win over Cornwall, the Tigercats improved to 39-24.
