Ballpark of North Richland Hills was the site of an exciting ballgame between the Miami Boll Weevils and Sonoma Scorpions.
The timely hitting of Juan Lira helped the Miami Boll Weevils down the Sonoma Scorpions, 7-6. Lira went 2 for 5 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once for the Boll Weevils. The winner in relief was Dan Gragnani. He is now 1-1. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.1 innings.
Had Kevin Johnson not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Johnson hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 7-6, in favor of the Boll Weevils.
"I just tried to make good contact," said Lira.
With this game in the books, Miami is 28-35, Sonoma 34-29.
