The Boll Weevils grabbed a win, 4-3, at Ballpark of Cincinnati, overcoming a fine effort from Cincinnati pitcher John Huber. Huber went 6 innings and allowed 3 runs. Miami reliever Dave Vondrasek picked up the win, upping his record to 1-2. Lorenzo Guerra took the loss. Yes, it was a win for Miami; but their 20-44 mark is nothing to crow about.
Miami used the timely hitting of Tim Tynes to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Boll Weevils on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Tynes attributed the win to his team's "dogged determination."
