The 2026 season is going from bad to worse for Miami.

The Hialeah Firecats beat the Miami Boll Weevils, 9-5, with major props going to first baseman Joe Handler. On the day, Handler went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once for the Firecats. Mario Paruzzi notched the win in relief. The left-hander allowed no runs on 4 hits in 2.1 innings. His record now sits at 1-2. Lasse van Rooijen, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 3rd save.

The game turned with two out in the top of the fourth. That's when Handler hit a 2-run home run off Dave Vondrasek. It propelled the Firecats into the lead, 7-5.

"We certainly don't want to get used to losing," said losing manager Bill Murtha.
