Boll Weevils Suffer 5-4 Home Defeat

The Hialeah Firecats managed to get by the Miami Boll Weevils, 5-4, at Ballpark of Miami. Hialeah catcher Ricardo de Leon set himself apart with his performance. The win was credited to Joe Newell in relief. His record improves to 2-1. Steve Adams took the loss. Hialeah is now 21-37.
Had Evan Shawen not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Shawen hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Firecats.
"It was a good effort all around," said Shawen.
