New York Beaten, 5-2, by Chicago
|
Chicago and New York duked it out and the Gangsters came out victorious.
The New York Nightmare could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Joe Schroeder into a win. Instead, the Chicago Gangsters prevailed, 5-2. Schroeder threw 7.2 innings of 2-hit ball. The loss drops New York to 4-3.
Chicago used the timely hitting of Hector Alvarez to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Gangsters on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Alvarez told a Chicago Gazette reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
