Marauders Win at San Francisco, 8-5
|
The Philadelphia Marauders stopped the San Francisco Fire, 8-5, at San Francisco Grounds. The Marauders got a big game from Danny Pierce, who went 3-4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Juan Mendoza, the winning pitcher, improved to 5-7. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 10 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 4 and walking 1. Chris Jacoby, who finished 5th in the AC in saves with 33 in 2017, earned the save for Philadelphia.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Carlos Barreto? The Philadelphia right fielder had a 2-run double in the top of the first inning to put the Marauders on top, 2-0. For the game, Barreto had 1 double and 1 single in 3 at-bats.
"No time for flexing," said Barreto. "It's always one game at a time."
Philadelphia improves to 36-25 with the win. They lead their division by 4 games.
