McCoy Torches Golden Bears for 5 Hits
|
Speaking with reporters after a dominating hitting performance, Rob McCoy said his club's tilt with the California Golden Bears "felt almost like batting practice." The 19-year-old right fielder went a remarkable 5-for-6 at the plate.
"I saw the ball well and could just about hit it anywhere I wanted," he recalled later.
However, his sensational day wasn't enough for the Virginia Tech Hokies, who were topped by the Golden Bears, 6-5.
"It's a good lesson for him, I guess," Hokies manager Stephen Sanchez said. "Sometimes Rob is going to lose. But I would rather him go 5-for-6 and lose than go 0-for-6 and lose."
Rob McCoy singled in the 2nd, struck out in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 5th, singled in the 7th, singled in the 9th and singled in the 11th.
Currently McCoy is batting .250 with 1 home run and 10 RBIs.
