Boston College's Ortiz Goes Ballistic with 5 Hits
5 hits in a game has always been a big milestone in baseball -- 5 hits in a game gets a player's name in the record book, win or lose. Joe Ortiz got his name recorded today, but the Pittsburgh Panthers picked up the win at Eddie Pellagrini Diamond, topping the Boston College Eagles, 17-15.

"He bushwhacked us," said winning manager Nick Kennison. "We were lucky to come out ahead."

Ortiz, who leads the SL1 in extra base hits with 18, spoke to reporters in the clubhouse following the game, saying his nerves only set in once he was on the cusp of the milestone.

"I got too much adrenaline going when I realized that this could be a once-in-a-lifetime day," the right fielder said. "I think the coaches could tell I was going to be ready to swing at anything close. That's why my third base coach told me to calm down and wait for a good pitch. That got me back on track."

Joe Ortiz singled in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off Dustin Hagan in the 5th, was hit by a pitch in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off Pat Doyle in the 9th.

This year Ortiz is batting .368 with 28 hits and 12 home runs. He has scored 23 times and has batted in 28 runs.
