Mounties Win at San Francisco, 4-0
|
The Vancouver Mounties topped the San Francisco Fire, 4-0, in National Conference action at San Francisco Grounds. The game was highlighted by the performance of Vancouver pitcher Ryan Heyer. Heyer, now 10-10, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 5, walking 3, and allowing no runs. Vancouver occupies third place in the National Conference West Division at 84-76.
Jason Coppa had a big 2-run home run for the Mounties in the top of the fifth inning. With Vancouver leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a sinker from Pat Hovhannisian, who finished 4th in the AC in innings pitched with 222.0 in 2015, and punished it. The result was his 15th home run of the season, which put the Mounties on top, 3-0.
"Makes our job easier," said Coppa, "when our pitchers shut the opposition down."
