Syracuse first baseman Matthew Anders played a vital role in his team's 4-2 conquest of Tampa Bay. He was 4 for 5 with a double and 3 singles, while adding 2 RBI for Syracuse. Ivan Medina got the win, improving to 2-2. He worked 7 innings, giving up 2 runs on 8 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 4. The third-place Scorpions lifted their record to 69-90.

There was more than one reason the Scorpions beat the Captains, but Anders's big at-bat in the top of the third was an important factor. He staked his team to a 2-0 lead when he hit a 2-run single.
