Fleet Earn 4-3 Win Versus Fire
|
The San Diego Fleet topped the San Francisco Fire, 4-3, in National Conference action at San Francisco Grounds. The standout performance belonged to San Diego pitcher and Tamboril, Dominican Republic, native Felipe Ayala. The Fleet now have a record of 97-60 with the win over San Francisco.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Jon Pitts? The seven-time All-Star Pitts stroked a run-scoring walk in the top of the ninth inning to put San Diego up, 4-3. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
"Felipe was good -- real good," said Fleet manager Brian Burnett.
