Fleet Drop Fire, 2-1
|
San Diego turned a good effort from starter Rodolfo Soto into a win over the San Francisco Fire at San Diego Stadium. The Fleet won the game, 2-1. Soto, now 11-14, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 6, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. San Diego has won 7 straight, while San Francisco has lost 9 in a row.
Nolan Lazarus had a big solo home run for the Fleet in the bottom of the fifth inning. With San Diego leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he got a fastball from 25-year old right-handed pitcher Taylor Motyl and swatted a home run to right. It was his 5th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Fleet ahead, 2-0.
San Diego manager Chris Evans called it "a darn good win."
