|
James Dobyns, who is tied for 7th in the NC in strikeouts with 209, imposed his will on the Fleet from the get-go. Relying mainly on his cutter, the right-hander spearheaded the 3-1 San Francisco triumph. In 5.2 innings, Dobyns surrendered 1 hit, while striking out 5 and walking 5. He allowed 1 run. The Fire now have a record of 72-84 with the win over San Diego.
San Francisco took the lead, 3-1, on Michael Nava's 18th home run of the season. The solo home run came off San Diego pitcher Rodrigo Lemus in the top of the seventh.
"We have a lot of confidence in James," said San Francisco manager Chris Ware.
