Good production from shortstop Alfonso Sanchez helped the San Diego Fleet topple the Hollywood Stars, 5-4. Sanchez was 1-3 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Fleet. San Diego leads the National Conference West Division by 19½ games.

Carlos Miranda had a big solo home run for the Fleet in the top of the fifth inning. With San Diego leading 4-2 and the bases empty, he sized up a slider from 27-year old right-handed pitcher Rick Hill and punished it. The result was his 31st home run of the season, which put the Fleet on top, 5-2.

"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Miranda told the San Diego Citizen.
