The inspired effort of Austin first baseman Jim Sykora was not enough to prevent a loss, 9-8, to the Halifax Heathens. Sykora went 2-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2. The Heathens, at 99-54, have a comfortable 18-game lead in their division.

The decisive blow was delivered by David Hollick in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a solo home run off 24-year old right-handed pitcher Matt Parsons to win the game for Halifax. The home crowd went nuts.

"I like our moxie," said Heathens manager David Morris.
