Sandusky Beats Oakland, 7-4
|
Spirited fans greeted the Oakland Invaders for their clash with the Sandusky Seagulls.
Oakland first baseman Carlos Rodriguez was sensational. He went 3-4 with a home run and a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. But it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Sandusky beat the Invaders, 7-4. Lorenzo Villarreal, who is a two-time All-Star, was the winning pitcher. Over 8 innings, he allowed 4 runs on 8 hits, with no walks and 3 strikeouts. Mike Fisher, credited with the save, is now 30 for 35 in save opportunities.
Malachi Smith had a key at-bat with one out in the top of the third for Sandusky. With the bases loaded and the Seagulls leading 2-1, he hit a sacrifice fly.
"I'm just trying to make good contact," said Smith, "one at-bat at a time."
The last-place Seagulls now sit at 63-90.
