Two good teams met in a late-season showdown.

The Boston Whistlers romped over the Cincinnati Royals, 11-3, at The Castle. Willie Kirkham led the way. He hit 2 home runs, while scoring 3 and driving in 6 for Boston. Kory Tourville locked down his 7th save.

In the top of the second inning, the Whistlers grabbed the lead when Carlos Herrera rapped a two-out single. Boston was trailing 2-1, when Herrera hit a 2-run single off Andy Dooley to put his team in front, 3-2.

"Getting a lot of baserunners and getting some timely hits, it's a good combination," said Kirkham.

The American Conference Central Division-leading Whistlers have a record of 86-66.
