Scorpions Lose to Pines, 5-4
|
The Syracuse Scorpions got a superb performance from designated hitter Nate Volk, but the Maine Pines still won the game, 5-4. Volk was 3-4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs. Matt Graham, the winner, goes to 12-5. He allowed 3 runs on 6 hits, with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts over 6 innings. Vinny Narvaez notched his 13th save in 16 chances.
Maine took control in the bottom of the sixth. With two out and a runner on 3rd, Mel Hernandez hit a run-scoring single to make it 4-3, Pines.
"This is truly a great team to play with," Hernandez said after the game. "We're like brothers, and when we come together to pull out the win, that just makes it all the better."
The first-place Pines, at 96-56, lead the National Conference North East Division by 10½ games.
