J.R. Mitchell could take little solace in pitching a good game. The fact is his Austin Desperados lost, dropping a 1-0 decision to the New York Nightmare at Nightmare Stadium. The win lifted the New York record to 76-76.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when New York center fielder Maik Penn, facing J.R. Mitchell, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Nightmare the 1-0 win.
"We'll take some time to unwind," said Penn, "and then get after it again."
