Syracuse Gets 5-1 Win
|
At Hannaford Dome, the Maine Pines and Syracuse Scorpions were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.
The Syracuse Scorpions downed the Maine Pines, 5-1, at Hannaford Dome. Stellar pitching by Matt Simpson had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who is tied for 3rd in the AC in wins with 15, handcuffed his opponent all game. The winning pitcher was Simpson, now 15-5. He tossed 7 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 9.
The Scorpions got a big at-bat from designated hitter Juan Lira. For the game, Lira went 4 for 5 with a triple, a double, and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI. In the top of the third, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 14th double of the season gave Syracuse a 2-0 lead.
Syracuse manager Ricardo Lopez said his team played a "no nonsense" game.
At 67-84, the Scorpions find themselves in second place in the American Conference Central Division.
